Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Pastor Timothy Keller received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University. After graduation, Pastor Keller attended the Westminster Theological Seminary to graduate with a Doctorate of Ministry. Pastor Keller did not become a Christian until he was in college, where he found the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. After this time, he chose to pursue a life in ministry.
Ordained by the Presbyterian Church, Pastor Keller spent nine years as a pastor in Virginia before he founded the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City.
Unlike the traditional feel of many evangelical churches and ministries, Pastor Keller strives to offer the importance of a personal relationship with God and conversion to Christianity. Timothy Keller sermons focus on the belief that the Bible is the unequivocal and complete truth.
In 2001, Pastor Keller, along with the rest of the members of the Redeemer Church, began a church planting ministry. Since that time, the church has been responsible for starting almost 200 new churches in New York City. This church planting ministry puts an emphasis on providing church programs for worshippers in the most urban areas of the inner city. In addition to his pastorship, Keller serves as an adjunct professor in the area of practical theology at the Westminster Theological Seminary.
Pastor Keller resides in New York City on Roosevelt Island He lives with Kathy, his wife, and they are the parents of three sons named David, Michael and Jonathan. It was with his wife, at the Westminster Theological Seminary, that Pastor Keller became involved in urban ministries, which drove him to begin the Redeemer Church and to make a push for a church planting ministry in the city.
