”For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”
What is the secret to powerful faith?
God’s Word says that if we have faith, we can ask the mountains to be cast into the sea, and it they would do exactly as we say. In fact, according to the Bible, even with faith the size of a mustard seed (about the size of a grain of sand), we can do amazing wonders.
Why then are so many believers not able to move their ‘mountains’?
Why is it that even the smallest molehills seem so insurmountable at times?
Well, that’s because we are not focusing on the right thing!
Often times, we keep trying to convince ourselves that if we ‘just have enough faith’, we can cause a miracle in our lives, that if we can just muster up enough of this mysterious thing called ‘faith’, we would be able to have a breakthrough.
Yet, according to God’s Word, the smallest amount of faith is more than enough to work miracles. In addition, He also said that each of us has already been given a measure of faith. How then, can our lack of results be simply due to having ‘not enough faith’?
Receiving Mountain Moving Faith
Could it be, that the reason we are not seeing results in our lives, is because we are focusing too much on ourselves, instead of God? We keep thinking that we have to do this and do that in order to have enough faith to receive the miracle we so desire. What we do not realize, is that God never asks us to muster up any faith by ourselves!
In Romans 10:17, God tells us that ”...faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”. You see, faith is not something we need to create or seek after. Indeed, it is a gift from God, and like any other gifts of God, we do not need to chase after it; it comes to us when we seek the Giver!
So how DO we receive the gift of mountain moving faith?
By listening to the Word of God of course!
When we open our hearts and listen to what God has to say through His Word, faith naturally wells up in us. It is through knowing God from the Scriptures that we gain that child-like trust in Him, and know for certain that His faithfulness will NEVER let us down.
Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith
Most of us know that Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, what many do NOT know however, is that the ’Word of God’ in Romans 10:17 is also a reference to Jesus as the Word of God. You see, we often try to work up our own faith instead of relying on Jesus. Ironically, when we focus on our own faith instead of Jesus, more often than not, nothing happens. But when we look to Jesus instead, wonders happen, sometimes without us even knowing (as we are too transfixed on the Beauty of Jesus).
When Peter walked on water, he did so not through his own faith, but by looking to Jesus. When he was focused on Jesus, he transcended natural laws and walked on the turbulent waters despite the huge waves. However, the moment he stopped looking to Jesus, and focused on the ‘terrifying’ waves instead, he immediately sank. But were the waves any larger or more dangerous than those during the brief moment when he walked on water? Of course not! The only difference is that when he stopped looking to Jesus, and focused on his ‘problem’ instead, he in effect relinquished the Power he had in Jesus, and allowed his surroundings to affect him.
Always remember, Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith, and He ALWAYS has the first and last word in every situation. By looking to Him, we allow Him to work in our lives, and our faith naturally grows.
Exercising Mountain Moving Faith
Ok, now that we have mountain moving faith, how do we actually use it? How do we receive the blessings and miracles that we so need? Well, ironic as it might sound, we exercise our faith by resting in Jesus and allowing Him to minister to us.
By resting in Jesus, we are in effect telling Him that we trust in Him, and believe that He will work on our behalf to bring about the highest good in our lives. Instead of constantly worrying and fretting about what we can do to solve our problems, we can instead say together with David, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want”. There is nothing we need that God cannot provide! We simply need to stop running away from Him and allow Him to help us with our problems.
The Secret to Mountain Moving Faith
So then, whenever you need faith, simply look away from your circumstances, and look to Jesus instead. There is absolutely no way that you can look to Him without your situation improving.
Hear the Word of God, look to Jesus, and rest in the Promises of God, and then, you will realize that the mountain moving faith naturally wells up in your heart. In fact, you might even realize to your surprise, that while you were Resting in Jesus, your ‘mountains’ have already been moved completely our of sight!
