A native of Wilson, North Carolina, Jentezen Franklin grew up with two brothers and two sisters. As a college student, Pastor Franklin played in a jazz band along with his brother, and he continues to play the saxophone presently. Although he attended college at Atlantic Christian College, Pastor Franklin quit in lieu of becoming a full time member of the ministry. Pastor Franklin married his wife, Cherise in 1987, and the two have five children.

During his early days in the ministry, Pastor Franklin worked as a guest speaker in the Church of God network. During his time as a guest speaker, Pastor Franklin was offered the position of lead pastor at the Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia. As the church grew, Pastor Franklin founded a second Free Chapel in California. In addition to his pastorship at the Free Church, Pastor Franklin is the host of a regular convention called the Forward Conference.

Jentezen Franklin sermons include a combination of Church of God and Pentecostal faith. He is a proponent of fasting as a method of becoming closer to God as well as the belief of faith healing. Pastor Franklin is the author of numerous books, and his books Right People, Right Place, Right Plan and Fasting have both held a stint in the New York Times bestseller list. Additionally, Pastor Franklin offers a televised program called the Kingdom Connection which has been featured on TBN.
