Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), a seminary school built in 1924 was a school famed for introducing Dispensationalism to theological teaching. Not only that, Dallas is also one of the first schools to introduce a four-year degree program in theology Master of Theology. Lets get to know Dallas Theological Seminary at a glance.
In 1924, Evangelical Theological College, as DTS was then called, was founded through the efforts of Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer and William Henry Griffith Thomas. DTSs foundation was based on Dr. Chafer and Mr. Thomass vision that seminary teaching should focus on expository preaching and teaching of the Bible. Both the founders were supposed to become the first professors of the seminary, however, Mr. Thomas died before the school was officially opened. The management of the school was then left to the hands of Dr. Chafer who served as the schools first president.
Doctor of Theology programs werent offered in the seminary until 1927, a year after the school transferred to its current site. As stated in earlier paragraph, Dallas Theological Seminary is the first to offer a four-year program in Theology, which offers a year more compared to what most seminaries are offering in the Master of Divinity program. It is also part of the schools training to hold 66 classes for the 66 books of the Bible.
DTS is an accredited school of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1969. The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada also gave their approval to this school in 1994. Aside from these institutions, DTS is a member of the following organizations: Association of Christian Schools International, the Evangelical Training Association, the Jerusalem University College, and the Institute of Theological Studies.
